One of my favorite things is visit when I am in Sarasota FL is Yoder's Amish Village. You might be asking yourself "but wait, don't Amish people only live in Pennsylvania?!" Yes they do live in Pennslylvania and also Sarasota FL.

"Newcomers to Sarasota are often surprised to find substantial Amish and Mennonite communities in town......The earliest Amish and Mennonite visitors to this area were attracted not only by the weather, a welcome change from winters in Ohio and Pennsylvania, but also by the opportunities offered for winter farming. The first families of record, according to a history by Mrs. Myron Yoder, grew vegetables on land in the Palmer Farms, which were in Fruitville. A few families purchased land and became permanent residents; many farmed during the summer in the north and in Sarasota during the winter." http://www.yodersrestaurant.com/main/the-history-of-sarasota-s-amish-and-mennonite-communities/

"Seeing the Village as it stands today, one might wonder how it all began. In the 1970's Levi and Amanda Yoder sold their farm in Nappanee, Indiana and moved to Sarasota, Florida. Due to the recession, they found themselves investing their life savings into a small restaurant on Main Street in 1975. Levi had a heart for people that created lasting connections and Amanda's second nature was good home cooking. The combination of the two had an instant way of making customers feel as if they were back in the comforts of "Mom's dinner table". http://www.yodersrestaurant.com/about/welcome-to-yoder-s-restaurant-amish-village./

Our family loves the pies and their fried chicken. Those happen to be the two of the things that Yoder's is famous for. Yoder's was also featured on the TV show "Man vs. Food."

There is just something special about Yoder's Amish Village. Home cooked meals, fresh farm ingredients, and service with a smile. It does not get any better then that.

This is my last Sarasota Blog post till I venture out there again next year. I hope you have had fun on my family vacation in Sarasota and Siesta Key Florida. There are some exciting things I have planned for y'all this coming fall. Thank you for stopping by and reading my adventures. I hope they inspire you and help you seek your next sojourn in life.

Love, Sem xoxo
